Horseback riding in Colorado reference list

ATTENTION Girl Scouts of Colorado!  We’ve been compiling list of riding facilities and instructors throughout Colorado as a reference for Girl Scouts. Below is what we have so far. If you know of a place or instructor that would be good to have on list, please add them to this blog! Some will offer discounts to Girl Scouts or large groups, but anyone wanting to register with any listed groups will need to ask or confirm with that location since this offer sometimes changes. To keep the list from being too long, there are two websites included that are a general data base for CHA certified instructors and for trailriding facilities. We will continue to add to this as we get more information. HAPPY RIDING!

Riding facilities and liveries:

Some may offer scout discounts, some offer group discounts. . .groups registering will need to ask to clarify when they register or contact these facilities. Also, some are seasonal and not open in winter.

  1. Thanks for sharing this great list. We’d love to introduce the GSA to our horses!

  2. Lisa Westrope says:

Western Ridge is also a great place for Girl Scouts…thats where i troop went this summer and the girls had a blast!

  3. Sandi Knowles says:

I would add Hands on Horses in Loveland. They have great lessons, including therapeutic riding lessons. They also offer camps.

  4. Wendy Anderson says:

Check out Ranahan Ranch Estes Park. They did a WONDERFUL 3 hour program for my mostly brownie troop that taught girls how to respect and care for horses, did a riding lesson in a corral, then a short trail ride (with 3 wranglers/5 riders), plus a craft. So much more educational than a nose to tail traditional trail ride (for not much more $).

My troop was so disappointed when we were planning at trip to YMCA Camp of the Rockies, Estes Park, and the livery could not supply enough Wanglers to meet the Safety Check Point Guidelines. We were willing to split in two groups, or pay more, but we were told “We have lots of Girl Scouts come and if it makes you feel better, none of them follow the rules.” Well, that didn’t make me feel better, And I’m glad I did my homework to find a stable willing to meet our needs.
