This year we want to provide more Journey support to girls and volunteers, so we’re going to try out a “tip of the week” blog post for each program level. This will be a success because of your contributions to these posts – through comments, or by sharing your own tip: http://www.girlscoutsofcolorado.org/journey-tips.
Brownie Tip #1 – We know that when activities are girl-led, they are not only more fun for girls, but also provide girls with a better leadership experience. Here are some suggestions for practicing girl-led as your Brownie Girl Scouts choose which of the 3 Journeys to work on this year.
Try out an activity related to each Journey, then let the girls vote on which one they like the best. Read off different “likes” and have them stand in different parts of the room that correlate with the things they are interested in. For example “nature” “environment” “sports” “community service” “friends” “stories”. Use the most popular “likes” to help make a decision on your Journey. You can have them “vote” in any variety of ways, but this is one good option for Brownies.
It’s Your Story – Tell It! A World of Girls: Do anything that relates to learning about another country. Here’s a “print and play” activity where girls get to make a book: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/printplay-make-a-book/
It’s Your Planet – Love It! – WOW! Wonders of Water: Do anything that teaches girls about water. Here’s some “print and play” coloring pages about snow: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/print-play-snowflakes/
It’s Your World – Change It! – Brownie Quest: Do anything that relates to learning about Girl Scouts making a difference in their community. Here’s an activity for making a Brownie Elf Paper Doll: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/printplay-brownie-elf-paper-doll/
Do you have any other suggestions for how to incorproate “girl-led” in choosing a Journey?
