Kick off your Girl Scout year with Zis Boom Bah

It’s hard to believe our summer is coming to a close and the new Girl Scout year is right around the corner! There will be a lot of exciting programs coming out in the 2012/2013 year, but I am really excited to tell you about our healthy living offerings.

As Girl Scout leaders and/or parents, you are probably very aware of the self-esteem, good nutrition and exercise challenges our girls face. One of Girl Scouts of Colorado’s core program areas is healthy living, with the goal of reversing the childhood obesity epidemic among our 30,000 girls as well as preventing other serious ailments that affect girls.

Girl Scouts of Colorado recently partnered with Zis Boom Bah, an interactive healthy gaming site, to offer our Girl Scouts, their parents and troop volunteers a fun and creative way to incorporate healthy living into their Girl Scout program year.

We’ve tested the program with several Girl Scout groups, and they’ve found it to be a great way to get girls moving and choosing healthy foods while having fun.

For the troop/group volunteers, it is also a great way to stay organized. The Zis Boom Bah site allows you to set group goals for Journey and badge work and then track the progress.

We’ve also set up a Healthy Living Challenge for our Girl Scout Brownie and Junior girls. The Live Healthy, Lead Healthy Challenge incorporates related Girl Scout Journey and badge work into the Zis Boom Bah site. All Girl Scouts who complete the challenge will be invited to celebrate at a Live Healthy, Lead Healthy event next July.

I hope all Girl Scouts will commit to their own personal healthy living challenges and Brownies and Juniors in Colorado will sign up to participate in the Live Healthy, Lead Healthy Challenge! (And if you have a girl in your life who isn’t a Girl Scout yet, we hope you will register her and participate in this great program!) Further information on this challenge and all of our healthy living program opportunities are available on the Girl Scouts of Colorado website. I’ve also included a promotional video we made on this program below.

Special thanks also goes to the Thiry O’Leary Foundation, the lead sponsor of our Live Healthy, Lead Healthy initiative.

And as your troop/group/Girl Scout works on this program and/or challenge, stay in touch with us by sharing your stories, photos and/or videos from your activities.
