The AMAZING Cortez Girl Scouts competed in the FIRST Lego Robotics League competition today. Our team was the very first ALL girl team ever to compete in this region. The “Super Tsunami Girls” made a robot out of Legos then programmed it to complete missions dealing with a natural disaster. They chose to portray a tsunami hitting Hawaii and what we can do to minimize the destruction caused to the roads and bridges caused by this type of disaster. If the roads and bridges can be fortified then the emergency supplies needed will be able to get through.

The Cortez Girl Scout team received 80 points for their missions, 85.5 on their skit and FIRST PLACE in the Core Values category. You should have seen our teams’ astonished and happy faces when we were announced as first place in that category! I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

This is their first year competing and they did very VERY good for first timers. I am so proud of these Girl Scouts! These Girl Scouts and their families have worked hard, attending two to three meetings per week for two months, and they deserve this win! Special thanks to Kyle Conrad our Girl Scout program director and the Durango Discovery Museum for setting this up and showing us the way! We love you! To my fellow coaches, Gayle Earley and Wendy Carter,…you are amazing coaches and we rocked this! Can’t wait till next year!
