Junior Journey tip of the week – incorporate girl-led into Journey choice

This year we want to provide more Journey support to girls and volunteers, so we’re going to try out a “tip of the week” blog post for each program level. This will be a success because of your contributions to these posts – through comments, or by sharing your own tip: http://www.girlscoutsofcolorado.org/journey-tips.

Junior Tip #1 – We know that when activities are girl-led, they are not only more fun for girls, but also provide girls with a better leadership experience. Here are some suggestions for practicing girl-led as your Junior Girl Scouts choose which of the 3 Journeys to work on this year.

Try out an activity related to each Journey, then have the girls decide as a group how they will make the choice. Will they take a vote? Open or closed vote? Choose at random? Let them get creative!

Activity ideas:

It’s Your Story – Tell It! aMUSE: Do anything related to careers/roles or storytelling. Follow this link to a “print and play” activity with character cards and an activtity to get you thinking about inspiring women: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/print-play-character-cards/, http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/print-play-inspiring-women-everywhere/

It’s Your Planet – Love It! – Get Moving!: Do anything related to energy and exercise. Here’s a link to an online exercise quiz: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/exercise-quiz/

It’s Your World – Change It! – Agent of Change: Do anything related to teambuilding. Follow this link to a “print and play” activity for making pinwheels: http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/print-play-pinwheels-for-peace/

Do you have any other suggestions for how to incorproate “girl-led” in choosing a Journey?
