- Materials going into the time capsule!
Girl Scouts from across Colorado continued their celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting when they gathered to place a time capsule at Tomahawk Ranch in Bailey on Saturday, July 28th. The time capsule will be opened in 2062, 50 years from now. The girls hope to show girls in the future what is was like to be a Girl Scout today.
The Time Capsule Committee began working on the project in February, 2010. Items placed in the time capsules were suggested and donated by Girl Scouts from across Colorado. Time capsule contents include a Cadette sash complete with patches and pins, a copy of “The Hunger Games” book, Angry Bird erasers, a sheet of “100 Years of Scouting” stamps , magazines, Girl Scout Cookie order form, cookie boxes, Girl Scout 100th anniversary memorabilia, and a Droid smart phone loaded with hundreds of photos, videos, Angry Birds app, and popular music.
The stainless steel time capsule was buried during the Camp S’more weekend with more than 140 Girl Scouts and alumnae in attendance. The Time Capsule Committee dedicated the time capsule during a ceremony complete with Girl Scout songs and wishes for the Girl Scouts of the future. The time capsule location is marked with a capstone in the shape of a trefoil that has been etched by the girls in the Time Capsule Committee. The capstone marks the date the time capsule was committed and the year it is to be opened, and includes an image of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts.
