Some of the girls who are selling so many cookies are planning to attend the trips to Washington DC and to Savannah. Those are the same weeks as these events, June 9th. Anyway to reconsider the date of the Denver Marriott Dinner?
I just can not believe that council can be so rude, and disrespectful to the very girls they clam they are in support of. To have two very important events planned at the same time a nation wide event is going on in our country’s capital. Council knew very well when this D.C. event was going to happen. Maybe they are just trying to be cheap and know that a lot of girls will be gone and they won’t have to spring for food etc. for the other events. Shame on you council.
I agree!! The girls are working very hard to sell cookies to earn money to go on the GS sponsered trips. It will disappoint them not to be able to attend the recognition events.
I agree again – the Top Seller event with Dinner should not conflict with other GS events!!
I agree with the previous 3 responders that with a major, nationwide event planned on June 9 that an alternate date would make more sense.
Also, two years ago, an option for the top seller event was the Flying W chuckwagon dinner in Colorado Springs which was an absolutely enjoyable event. The top seller dinner is more formal and the Flying W was close enough to Denver for us to travel but not so far away that we had to make overnight plans. Any chance of bringing this back in the future?
DO we know about the last two events? I don’t know what MMR is or Lazy Acres. Would like to find out what the choices are in time to consider the dates/locations. Thanks!
The top seller event at MMR will be July 21, 2012 – more details to follow.
Has anyone gotten any response from council about changing the date of the dinner? I have girls who will be top sellers for the first time this year and were very excited to attend the dinner, until we found out it was the same day as the Washington, DC event, which we are attending as a troop. Very poor planning from council! This is the second year in a row that the award dinner was the same day as a major event – last year it was on the same day as the statewide briding at the Royal Gorge.
The Product Sales Dept. is looking into the possibility of a date change for the dinner. No guarantees we can make it happen but we understand the disappointment for top sellers who want to attend both. Stay tuned.
I agree. It is very disappointing not being able to attend this dinner, both of my daughters first time, because we plan on attending the DC. My next big concern is, if there is a change will it be known before next week when we must make our decisions for the awards and if it is changed PLEASE don’t change it to the next weekend during the BIG state bridging at the Royal Gorge.
We are going to have to stick with the original date planned for the Top-Seller dinner at the Marriott. We realize this is disappointing for girls who are attending Rock the Mall in Washington, D.C., however they can choose to attend any of the other Top-Seller events scheduled in May and July or they can choose to take the $40 in Cookie Credits instead of attending an event and use that money toward their trip to D.C. All Top-Sellers will receive their medallion regardless if they attend an event or not. It’s a very busy year for Girl Scouts and it’s great there are so many exciting things going on that it’s difficult to find weekends without scheduling conflicts. It’s an important life lesson for all of us that sometimes we have to make choices, even difficult ones. The girls have worked hard; parents and volunteers can help them choose how they will celebrate their success.
I agree with all of the other disapointed parents, and trying to release the blame from council is so wrong. The dates for this event have been set for 3 yrs cause that is how long we have been plannning on going. The life lesson to learn hear is that one shouldn’t put the trust into others peoples hands when it comes to planning BIG events, because there seems to be no communication down at council. This is very disappointing as I have 2 girls who have never been to the Dinner and this was their push year to make it happen.
Another life lesson is are you really gonna have anyone at the dinner to even make it worth while to even hosting. Even if this time of yr is busy it could be planned for later in the month after the Bridging. I am feeling that council really doesn’t care, expecially with a comment like that of, ” life lesson,” that sends out the feeling of” oh well.” And it is a very negative response.
A very very disappointed leader of 10 yrs. Who is thinking of quiting this whole organization
What is the date and time for the Bar D Chuckwagon? and location. A description would be nice too. Also, time, date and descripion for Lazy Acres.
Just some feedback for the future, on the ebudde recognition page, you should list the dates along side the Top Seller Event choices. It would help GS to appear more professional and organized. I’ve let multiple voice messages and sent emails in regard to the dates on the Top Seller Events and have yet to get a response. We are coming down to the wire and girls want to make intelligent choices. Having all the information available shows these high achievers that GS Council respects their time and effort that they have made. Respect is a key component to the GS Law.
Is more information available on the two additional Top Seller events? My daughter needs to make her choices tomorrow. Thanks!
Ask your regional mananger of product sales for more information. Thanks!
Bar D is June 2. More info to come.
“It’s an important life lesson for all of us that sometimes we have to make choices, even difficult ones. “….WOW..talk about uncaring… Is this a way of keeping cost down for Girl Scouts dinner? You knew going into this that a lot of the troops were earning toward DC, you knew the dates, and then to go ahead and plan the award dinner…totally does not seem right. Totally disappointed in council, but from the above response…you don’t really care what people think or feel.
I agree completely!! I think that Council is missing the point of this discussion. The “life lesson” the girls were supposed to learn was to set a goal, plan, work hard, and hopefully reach that goal. The girls have done all that and will be enjoying the rewards of their hard work in DC. And unfortunately they and the parents have also learned that we can’t count on Council to do the same. Although it’s true that the girls will receive their medallion – I don’t have a girl in my troop that earned that award for the medallion – they earned it for the dinner. And it’s true that we could attend another event – but would you tell a girl in Grand Junction she could only attend the event in Colorado Springs? The Denver dinner happens to be the closest event to us and the only one my girls want to attend. Council knew about conflict in more than enough time to solve the problem, but judging by your response, you didn’t care and hoped noone would notice.
We are still trying to get information for the day at Lazy Acres. Anyone with info please please please let us know when this event s scheduled and what it entails.
Thank you
Hi Romaine,
The event at Lazy Acres was cancelled. We only had two girls sign up for the event, who were contacted as soon as the cookie sale ended. I apologize if you were one of those two girls and did not receive that communication. You may choose to attend any of the remaining events, or opt for the $50 cookie credits earned at this level instead. Please send your choice or any additional questions to your product sales staff at your local service center. Thanks!
