Last week at Magic Sky, we had a dance party. We got to dress up however we wanted and dance to music with the whole camp. It struck me while I was doing the monkey in a glittery shirt and tights that were reminiscent of a sweater probably once seen on the Bill Cosby Show, that at camp, you can be as weird as you want, and no one cares. Everyone just wants to get together and have fun. There are a lot of different types of people who come to camp, because Girl Scouts is welcoming to anyone. This results in all sorts of new interactions for girls. Because everyone is meeting new people and experiencing new things, no one is judging anybody.
Besides, you’re at camp! Camp isn’t about looking nice, or doing the expected. Camp is about stepping slightly out of the comfort zone and challenging yourself. I say, the weirder the better! The newer the experience is to you, the more you are going to take away from it.
I guess the point is, Girl Scout camp fosters weirdness, which in turn fosters individuality and confidence in girls, and nothing could be better than that. I appreciate and enjoy every weird moment at camp, especially when it comes from the campers themselves. Not only do I feel that accepting people’s differences makes us stronger, but it can be incredibly fun at the same time.
So come to camp to be weird, or just be yourself, and sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s going to be a good one.

Precisely why we love Girl Scouts of Colorado!! There was plenty of that good kind of weirdness to go around at the Me & My Guy camp my daughter attended with her dad in January. Love it!
